JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)
JEE body decided to conduct a Joint Entrance Examination from the year 2013 for admission to the undergraduate programs in Engineering in two phases, i.e. JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced). The first 2,20,000 candidates (including all categories) based on their performance in JEE (Main) will qualify to appear in JEE (Advanced) examination. Admissions to IITs will be based on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced) subject to conditions that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile categories. Admission to NITs will be based on 40 % weightage of the performance in Class XII board marks (normalized) and the remainder 60 % weightage would be given to performance in JEE (Main) and a combined All India Rank (AIR) would be decided accordingly.
The normalized Qualifying examination marks will be based on the position of the candidate in the Board (i.e. his/her percentile score). The percentile score a candidate gets in his/her board will mainly contribute to his/her normalized marks. The weightage of normalized qualifying examination marks is only for deciding ranking of JEE (Main) which will be used for admission to all Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs)/ NITs/IIITs but excluding IITs.
In 2015-16, State Governments voluntarily participating in the JEE (Main) system for admission in the B.Tech/B.E. courses are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) application form online.
Benefits of JEE
JEE conducts a single entrance exam for all engineering aspirants in India to take admission into the Engineering/Science institutions. There is no need to apply for several entrance exams. The students will be free and relaxed after appearing in a single exam. Owing to this, stress-level will be considerably reduced and a student can avoid multiple exams which pose the challenge of preparing for different syllabi and patterns. It is a substantial financial savings for parents. A simultaneous preparation of School/ Board examinations and JEE will yield better results. Introduction of JEE eliminates unnecessary wastage of time, effort & money.
Institutes Participating under JEE and their Number of Seats
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2016 has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 92 institutes for the academic year 2016-17. This includes 22 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 Other- Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes will be made through a single platform.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE
- 1. For NITs, IIITs or GFTIs, normalized marks of XII board are considered and eligibility is also the same as earlier, which is a minimum 60% mark in PCM in XII board.
- 2. For IITs & ISM-Dhanbad, the student must be in Top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their Class-XII board or must have secured at least 75% marks in class XII board exam. The aggregate mark for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 70%.
- 3. Marks of 5 subjects will be considered for calculation of percentile and normalization of qualifying examination marks for paper KB.E./B. Tech.):
1-Language, 2-Physics, 3-Mathematics, 4-Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject) 5-Any subject other than the above four subjects.

Test Pattern of JEE
The admission to the undergraduate programmes at the JEE (Main & Advanced) is based on a two-tier test. The first test is called the JEE (Main) for NITs & IIITs shall be held during the month of April (both offline and online) conducted by CBSE/Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The second test, JEE (Advanced) for IITs & ISM-Dhanbad shall be held in the month of May (only offline) which is conducted by the IITs/JEE body.
Exam Structure of JEE (Main)-2016
The JEE (Main) exam consists of two papers; Paper-1 for B.E. / B.Tech & Paper-2 for B. Arch/ B. Planning aspirants. Paper-1 contains a total of 90 Multiple Choice Objective Type Questions with equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks whereas each incorrect answer will be awarded l/4th negative marks. Mode of the test is both offline and online for Paper-1 and only offline for Paper-2. Question papers are provided in both English and Hindi medium.

Exam Structure of JEE (Advanced) – 2016
The JEE (Advanced) consists of two objective type papers i.e., Paper-1 & Paper-2. Each Paper consists of three parts – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 3 separate sections i.e., Section-1, 2 & 3. Each paper comprises of 54 questions, 18 questions from each subject. The maximum marks are 186 for each paper comprising 62 marks for each subject. For both Paper-1 and Paper-2, each subject carried 124 (62×2) marks and the total marks are 372 (124×3). Duration of each paper is 3 hours. In some Sections, incorrect answers are awarded negative marks. Question papers are provided in both English and Hindi Medium.

Candidates should use BLACK BALL POINT pen for darkening the bubbles. She/he should darken the appropriate bubble under each digit of his/her Roll No. Candidates should apply adequate pressure to ensure that a proper impression is made on the second page of the ORS. Analysis of IIT-JEE 2016
According to the latest pattern, JEE is conducted for the admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs. This is a two phase exam, the first phase JEE (Main) is designed almost on previous year pattern. The second phase is JEE (Advanced), which is based on the eligibility criteria set by the IITs. This phase is meant for the serious candidates who aspire to enter the most sought after premier institutions like IITs. JEE (Advanced) is conducted on same lines with that of IIT-JEE.

Result of JEE (Main) 2016
The results of the JEE (Main) 2016 was declared on 27 April 2016, Wednesday conducted by the CBSE on their official website (www.jeemain.nic.in). Question paper of JEE (Main) 2016 for B.Tech course was of total 360 marks. The Offline exam of JEE (Main) Paper-1 was conducted on 3rd April 2016 whereas, the Online exam was held on 9th & 10th April, 2016. Based on JEE (Main) 2016 Paper 1 scores, top 2,20,000 candidates are shortlisted for JEE (Advanced) 2016.
Last year, the cut-off was 105 for General category, 70 for OBC, 50 for SC and 44 for ST. This year, the cut-off has been dropped than the last year -100 for General category, 70 for OBC, 52 for SC category, 48 for ST and 1 for PwD category.

The JEE (Main) 2016 All India Rank list was announced on 23rd June 2016, Thursday on the official website http://jeemain.nic.in/webinfo/Public/Home.aspx and http://cbseresults.nic.in/jee/jee_2016.htm. The list shows the top 1,000 positions – 853 of them secured by boys and 147 by girls. The All India Ranks (AIR) of the candidates was prepared after normalizing 60% weightage for the JEE (Main) score and with 40% weightage for Class XII marks. The JEE (Main) All India Ranks will be used for around 34,781 seats – pertaining to 629 courses in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 GFTIs in India.
Qualifying Criteria for JEE (Advanced) 2016
The total marks obtained in Mathematics will be the marks awarded for Mathematics in Paper 1 and Paper 2. The total marks obtained in Physics and Chemistry will also be calculated in the same way. The aggregate marks will be calculated as the sum of the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Candidates have to satisfy the subject-wise as well as the aggregate qualifying marks to be included in a rank list.
